Hildegunn Øiseth Quartett
Festival Dolomites 2025

The Norwegian jazz musician and music researcher Hildegunn Øiseth was the trumpeter for the Bohuslän Big Band in the 1990s, before immersing herself in Township Jazz and traditional music around Cape Town, South Africa. At the same time, she began researching the music of the Sámi, the Indigenous people of northern Scandinavia, and discovered striking similarities between the two musical cultures. In Pakistan, Øiseth explored connections between local ragas and Norwegian scales, and found them: the goat horn is played during Sufi ceremonies in Pakistan and used in Norway as a shepherd’s signaling instrument. In her quartet, Øiseth blends modern jazz with musical traditions from around the world.
